Prime Rib with Garlic Herb Butter

A delicious restaurant style prime rib roast.

  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 7 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh rosemary
  • 2 tbsp fresh thyme
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp pepper
  • 5-7 lbs boneless rib roast
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef stock


  1. Combine the butter, garlic, rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper in a bowl.

  2. Completely coat the rib roast with the butter mixture and bake at 500 degrees Fahrenheit at 5 min/lb for medium rare.

  3. Turn off heat and rest in oven for 2 hours. Do not open the oven doors.

  4. Separate the rib roast and the juices collected on the bottom. Pour the juice into a pot on medium-high heat.

  5. Add the flour to the pot and whisk until the flour is completely dissolved and the liquid has thickened into a gravy.

  6. Pour in the beef stock and bring to a simmer. Remove from heat and use a strainer to remove large chunks from the gravy.
