When we think of food, it’s normally in relation to stop ourselves from feeling hungry. But what if we ate food for the sake of something else in our bodies? Our skin works hard as our largest organ, protecting the rest of your body from pathogens such as viruses and bacteria. It can also age quickly due to all of the elements it is exposed to, but we can help to prevent that by eating certain foods.
Oats are rich in antioxidants, which fight cell damage that causes aging on your skin. It is also full of soluble fiber, helping to rid the body of “bad” cholesterol. Another breakfast food you can have alongside this is oranges. Oranges contain vitamin C and beta carotene, two resources that also help to tighten your skin and repair your skin. To top it off, eggs are also amazing for your skin- they contain nine essential amino acids, high quality protein(yes, there is a difference between the proteins you eat), and vitamin D! In short, a balanced breakfast goes a long way for your skin.
If you’re not much of a breakfast person or just too busy in the mornings, have an avocado with your next meal. Avocados contain vitamin E, healthy fats, and omega-3 to boost your skin’s natural repairing abilities and prevent aging. Salmon is also an excellent source of omega-3, and is a delicious protein at that. If you don’t like avocados and salmon, have a side of brussels for some vitamin A and folate, which will help protect against skin damage! For dessert, have some grapes- they’re full of even more vitamin C and K to keep your skin as young and healthy as possible, even into old age.
