Onions are a necessary ingredient all over the world. No matter where you go, there’s an onion- and for good reason! Onions are flavorful and distinct, while also working well with other flavors no matter what they are. Here are some tips to improve your onion cooking skills, and make your onions shine no matter what you’re eating them in!
Are you afraid of crying when you prep your onions? Sharpen your knife! This makes sure that the knife cuts through the onion smoothly, ensuring there are less juices flying, causing you to cry more. Another prep tip is to keep all of the slices roughly the same width, this causes all of your onions to cook evenly and minimize your burnt or undercooked onion pieces. Trying to dice your onions instead? Keep the root of your onion on! This provides a stable place for the onion to be diced on so the multiple sections of the onion stay together much more easily.
Once you have your onion pieces, only add some oil and a little water in a pan to make caramelized onions! If your onions haven;t been sliced much, use the onion rings to serve as deliciously edible egg molds for your fried eggs! If you ahve leftover onions, store pieces in a plastic bag and freeze them for next time. If you still have part of a whole onion, simply wrap it in cling wrap for your next meal!
