  • 3/4 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork sausage
  • 1/2 small white onion chopped
  • 1/2 medium green bell pepper chopped
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp flour all-purpose
  • 1 1/2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 can diced green chiles
  • 4 oz Oaxana cheese shredded
  • 2 1/2 oz Monterey Jack cheese shredded
  • large corn chips such as Fritos Scoops

  1. Preheat broiler with oven rack 8 inches from heat.

  2. Cook beef, sausage, onion, and bell pepper in a medium skillet over medium-high, stirring constantly to crumble until beef and sausage are cooked through and lightly browned, about 10 minutes. Drain mixture, and return to skillet.

  3. Stir together tomato sauce, ketchup, water, brown sugar, flour, vinegar, mustard, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, and salt in a medium bowl. Pour over beef mixture, and stir to combine. Cover and reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer, stirring occasionally, 20 minutes. Stir in green chiles.

  4. Transfer mixture to a 2-quart baking dish or cast-iron skillet. Top evenly with cheeses. Broil in preheated oven until cheese is golden and bubbly, 3 to 5 minutes. Serve with corn chips.
