We all know that apple pies are American, but apples are also a great sign that autumn (or fall, whichever you prefer) is upon us and that apples are ripe for the picking. While churros aren’t the most American nor the best symbol of Autumn, their flavors go amazingly well with apples and apple pies- who doesn’t love cinnamon, after all?
This recipe combines the best of churros and the best of apple pies in a simple, handheld variant that you can take to eat anywhere with no fuss whatsoever!
Instead of using a traditional pie crust, puff pastry is used. The puff pastry is more suitable for this form because of how light it is. The lightness of the puff pastry gives it the crispy bite for a perfect crust, as well as the structure needed to hold the pie up and keep its form. It’s also faster to cook than a normal crust!
What gives this recipe the kick to make it related to the churro is how the puff pastry crust is treated- it’s glazed with butter than dipped in cinnamon sugar, just like a traditional churro would be. If you’re looking to take it one step further, try dipping the crust in chocolate sauce before adding your apple!
