Potatoes are amazing. Whether you like them baked, fried, mashed, in a soup, or as a crunchy chip – these terrific vegetables are the best meal or snack you’ll ever have in your life! Potatoes can all be traced back to South America to a plant related to the deadly nightshade, but thankfully for us and the rest of the world, they are non poisonous and are readily available all over the world.
While there are an infinite number of ways to cook potatoes as shown above, there’s nothing wrong with the traditional baked potato. This is a deceptively easy dish, but there are always ways to polish your baked-potato game and step it up to the next level!
To make the best baked potato, you need the best potato for baking. There are so many variants of potatoes, but the number one is the russet. This potato is large with a thick skin, which may be annoying in other dishes, but is perfect for baking since it helps to keep the moisture in while the potato bakes fully to the core! Before baking your russet, make sure that the outside is fully free of water and only coated with olive oil for a crisp skin. Lastly, don’t forget to poke holes before baking, so the steam doesn’t get trapped and make a potato bomb in your kitchen!
