Grilled Cheese

Sometimes, you just can't be bothered to get out all the bowls and pans after work. It is in these troubled times that we turn to the eternal classic: the grilled cheese.

Total Time 15 minutes

Author Daniel Trock

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 8 Italian bread slices
  • 8 Cheese slices Any cheese is fine! I'm partial to Swiss and Pepperjack, myself.

Instructions

  1. Spread 1 1/2 tsp. mayonnaise on 1 side of each bread slice. This'll keep the bread from burning.

  2. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Place 2 of your prepared bread slices, mayonnaise side down, in skillet. Top each bread slice with 2 cheese slices and 1 more bread slice, mayonnaise side up. Cook each side of the sandwich until they're both golden brown, around 3 minutes. You'll end up with 4 sandwiches when all the bread is used up.

Recipe Notes

Most grilled cheese recipes call for butter as the burn deterrent. Mayo has a little less fat (potentially a lot less depending on the brand and variety) and gives the bread a little extra tang.
