Fireball Cake

Spicy desserts are all the rage these days. I don't claim to understand it, but don't let anybody say I don't give the people what they want. Here's a fiery recipe for a Fireball Cake!

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 50 minutes
Total Time 1 hour

Ingredients

The Cake!

  • 1 box vanilla cake mix
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup Fireball whisky

The Filling and Frosting!

  • 1 1/3 cup 3 sticks butter, softened
  • 6 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup Fireball whisky
  • Pinch kosher salt
  • Yellow and red food coloring

Decoration!

  • Hot Tamales (The candies, not the little burrito things.)
  • Fireball nip optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and flour two 8" round pans, then line them with parchment paper. In a large bowl, mix together the cake mix and cinnamon, then stir in the vegetable oil, eggs, water and Fireball. Make sure to evenly divide the ingredients between the two pans. Bake the pans according to the directions on the cake mix box and let 'em cool off completely.

  2. Time for that spicy Fireball frosting: In a large bowl, combine butter, half the powdered sugar, salt, and remaining 1/4 cup Fireball. With a hand mixer, beat the mixture until it becomes smooth. Add the remaining powdered sugar and continue beating until light and fluffy. Gently stir in the yellow food coloring, then the red. Careful not to over-mix the colors, you want this stuff to look streaky.

  3. Place a dab of frosting on cake plate. This'll help hold the cake in place. Place parchment strips on each side of the plate. Place down the first cake piece and top with frosting, then top it with the second cake piece and frost the top and sides.

  4. Transfer your remaining buttercream into a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe dollops of buttercream all around the cake and top each one with hot tamales. Pipe a large swirl into the center of the cake and top it off with a miniature bottle of Fireball. Your call whether to drink it first or not.
