Keep herbs fresh, fragrant, and ready to use for longer

Fresh herbs can lose their texture and aroma quickly if they’re not stored the right way. A few simple steps can help them stay vibrant for several extra days, and sometimes even a full week or more. The key is managing moisture without letting the leaves dry out. Different herbs do best with slightly different storage methods.

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch fresh herbs coriander, parsley, mint, basil, dill, etc.
  • Paper towel
  • Airtight container or zip bag
  • Small glass or jar
  • Water

Instructions

  1. Remove any wilted, yellow, or damaged leaves first.
  2. Gently pat the herbs dry if they are wet from washing.
  3. Wrap the herbs loosely in a slightly damp paper towel.
  4. Place them inside an airtight container or zip bag and store in the fridge.
  5. For soft herbs like coriander, parsley, and mint, trim the stems slightly and place them upright in a glass with a little water.
  6. Cover the tops loosely with a plastic bag and refrigerate.
  7. Change the water every 2–3 days.
  8. For basil, keep it in a glass of water at room temperature instead of the fridge, as cold temperatures can darken the leaves.
