Ingredients

  • 3 heads garlic
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1 pound loaf Italian bread
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley optional
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese optional

Instructions

  1. Turn the oven up to 350 F. While that's heating up, slice the top off each garlic head. You want the tip of each clove to be exposed. Place the garlic on a baking sheet and drizzle them with olive oil. Bake the garlic in the preheated oven until it turns soft, about 30 minutes.

  2. Switch the oven over to broil. Cut the Italian bread in half horizontally and place it on the baking sheet, cut side up.

  3. Squeeze the garlic cloves out of their skins into a medium bowl. Stir in the butter, parsley, and Parmesan cheese (if you're using it) until it's all well blended. Spread that mixture onto the cut sides of the bread.

  4. Broil the prepped bread until it's nice and toasty, about 5 minutes.
