Boiled Rice

Course Side Dish
Prep Time 25 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes

Instructions

  1. Measure the rice: Use a measuring cup to measure the desired amount of rice. A standard ratio is 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water.
  2. Rinse the rice: Rinse the rice in a fine-mesh sieve under cold water. Gently swirl the rice with your fingers while rinsing to remove any excess starch.
  3. Soak the rice (optional): Soaking the rice for about 15-30 minutes can help improve the texture and shorten the cooking time. This step is optional but recommended.
  4. Add water: In a pot, add the rinsed rice and the appropriate amount of water based on the rice-to-water ratio. For example, if you used 1 cup of rice, add 2 cups of water.
  5. Bring to a boil: Place the pot on the stove over medium-high heat and bring the water to a boil.
  6. Reduce heat and cover: Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid.
  7. Cook the rice: Let the rice simmer on low heat for about 15-20 minutes or until all the water is absorbed. Avoid opening the lid during this time to maintain steam and proper cooking.
  8. Remove from heat and let it rest: After cooking, remove the pot from the heat but leave the lid on. Let the rice rest for an additional 5-10 minutes. This allows the rice to steam and become fluffy.
  9. Fluff the rice: After resting, remove the lid and use a fork to fluff the rice gently. This helps to separate the grains and create a light, fluffy texture.
