Combine the ground beef, salt, pepper and onion powder and set aside.
Peel and cut off the ends of the whole onion. Slice the onion into 1/2"-1" thick rings.
Stuff the onion rings with the ground beef leaving some space on one side for a cheese block (cut if needed) and covering it up with some more ground beef.
Create a breading station with the flour, eggs, and bread crumbs. Double bread each hamburger stuffed onion ring by coating the onion rings in flour, then the eggs, then the breadcrumbs, going back into the eggs and then a final breadcrumb coating.
Fry the coated onion rings at medium-high or 350 degrees Fahrenheit until golden brown.
