Homemade Buttermilk

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of milk whole, 2%, or skim
  • 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Measure the Milk: Pour 1 cup of your chosen milk into a measuring cup.
  2. Add the Acid: Add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice to the milk. Stir gently to combine.
  3. Let It Sit: Allow the mixture to sit at room temperature for about 5-10 minutes. You’ll notice it thickening and curdling slightly, which is exactly what you want!
  4. Stir and Use: After it has rested, give it a good stir. Your homemade buttermilk is now ready to use in your favorite recipes!

Recipe Notes

Storage: Homemade buttermilk can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Just give it a shake before using, as it may separate.
