Total Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

For the Taco Shell

  • 1 waffle cone

For the Filling and Toppings

  • Ice cream of your choice
  • 1 cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate melted
  • Sprinkles crushed nuts, shredded coconut, cookie crumbs, or other toppings

Instructions

  1. The easiest method is using the microwave. Wrap the waffle cone in a damp paper towel and microwave it on high for about 15 seconds.
  2. The cone should become soft and flexible without turning wet. If it still feels stiff, heat it for another 5 seconds at a time until pliable.
  3. You can also use a steamer. Place the cone in a steamer basket over boiling water, cover it, and steam for about 20 to 30 seconds.
  4. Carefully remove the warm cone from the paper towel or steamer. While it's still flexible, gently unfold or unravel it into a flatter piece.
  5. Don't wait too long here. Once the cone cools, it will start becoming crisp again and will be harder to reshape.
  6. Fold the warm waffle cone in half to create the classic taco shape. Hold it in position for around 30 seconds so it can begin to set.
  7. Place it on a flat surface and allow it to cool completely for 2 to 3 minutes. Once cooled, it should be firm enough to hold its shape.
  8. Now comes the best part. Add a generous scoop of your favorite ice cream to the cooled shell. Use a small rubber spatula or spoon to gently spread the ice cream along the inside. Don't worry about making it perfectly neat—these tacos are supposed to be fun and a little messy.
  9. Melt the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate until smooth. Carefully dip the edges of the ice cream taco into the chocolate, coating the rim generously.
  10. Immediately add your toppings while the chocolate is still melted. Try colorful sprinkles for a classic look, crushed nuts for crunch, or shredded coconut for a tropical twist.
  11. Transfer the taco to a parchment-lined plate and let the chocolate firm up for about 1 to 2 minutes.
  12. Once the chocolate has set, your homemade ice cream taco is ready to enjoy. Serve it right away while the shell is crisp and the ice cream is cold.
