In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon. Using a mixture of brown and white sugar gives the filling a little more depth, but you can absolutely use whichever sugar you have in the pantry.
-
Place the tortilla flat on a clean surface and spread the softened butter evenly over the entire tortilla. Don't skip the edges. That buttery coating helps create those delicious caramelized spots as the tortilla cooks.
-
Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the butter. For a stronger cinnamon flavor, add another small pinch of cinnamon. If you like your desserts less sweet, simply use a little less sugar.
-
Starting from one edge, roll the tortilla as tightly as you can into a log. The tighter the roll, the more defined your cinnamon spiral will be.
-
Use a sharp knife to cut the log into approximately 1-inch pieces. You'll now have several little cinnamon-roll spirals ready to cook.
-
For the quickest result, place the rolls cut-side down in a lightly buttered nonstick skillet over medium-low heat.
-
Cook for about 1–2 minutes per side, turning carefully, until the edges are golden and the sugar has started to caramelize.
-
You can also use an air fryer for a crispier finish, but cooking time can vary depending on the appliance. Start checking early rather than letting the tortilla become overly crisp.
