Total Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz mezcal or substitute with tequila for a milder flavor
  • 3 oz fresh grapefruit juice
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 1/2 oz dragon fruit syrup for color and light sweetness
  • 1/2 oz agave syrup adjust to taste
  • Club soda for topping
  • Ice

Garnishes

  • Chili-lime salt for rimming
  • Grapefruit wedge
  • Slice of dragon fruit for visual appeal
  • Tiny piece of dry ice or smoked wood chip for dramatic effect optional; use dry ice only if you’re familiar with handling it safely

Instructions

Prepare the Glass:

  1. Rub a wedge of lime around the rim of a tall glass. Dip the rim into a plate of chili-lime salt for a spicy, tangy kick.

Build the Cocktail:

  1. In a shaker, combine mezcal, grapefruit juice, lime juice, dragon fruit syrup, and agave syrup. Add ice and shake vigorously to blend all the flavors.

Serve:

  1. Strain the cocktail into the prepared glass filled with fresh ice, leaving about an inch of space at the top. Top with a splash of club soda for a bit of effervescence.

Garnish and Add the Smoke:

  1. Garnish with a grapefruit wedge and a slice of dragon fruit for that pop of color.
  2. If you’re using dry ice, drop a tiny piece into the glass just before serving for a dramatic smoky effect, but be sure to let it fully dissolve before drinking. Alternatively, you can create a smoky effect by igniting a small wood chip and capturing the smoke in the glass with a lid or another glass over it.

Serve with Style:

  1. This drink is best enjoyed slowly, allowing guests to savor the complex flavors and visual appeal. If you’re going for extra flair, serve it in a dimly lit room to enhance the mystique of the smoke and vibrant color.
