Coconut Sticky Rice

  • sticky rice 1 lb.
  • 2 cans coconut milk 13.5 oz.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons kosher salt


  1. Rinse the rice 2-5 times then let soak overnight in cold water.
  2. In a saucepan, bring sugar, salt, and coconut milk to a boil. Reduce to simmer and let cook for 10 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Bring a pot of water to boil with a steamer attachment fitted over.
  5. Drain rice through a cheesecloth, squeezing to remove excess liquid.
  6. Place the rice in cheesecloth bundle in the steamer and cook for 30 minutes.
  7. Put cooked rice in a large bowl and mix with some of the sweetened coconut milk. Add just enough liquid to cover the rice and stir.
  8. Let sit for 30-45 minutes so the rice continues to absorb the liquid.
  9. Serve and enjoy! 😀
