Apple Chutney

This tart topping goes great on sandwiches!

Ingredients

  • 15 tart apples peeled, cored, and finely chopped
  • 1 yellow onion quartered
  • 3 1 inch pieces fresh ginger root peeled
  • 1 cup white wine vinegar
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon white pepper
  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Mix all of the ingredients together in a saucepan. Bring the pan to a boil, reduce the heat, and put a cover on. Let the mix simmer for 30 minutes, stirring frequently, until the apples turn tender. If the ingredients dry out, mix in a little water. Take the onion and ginger out of the mix, and store in a container in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
