Hot Chocolate Bombs
Prep Time 20 minutes
Cooling Time 30 minutes
Total Time 50 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 cups semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips or your favorite chocolate
- 1 cup hot cocoa mix store-bought or homemade
- 1 cup mini marshmallows
- Optional: sprinkles edible glitter, or crushed peppermint for decoration
Instructions
Melt the Chocolate
-
Start by melting the chocolate. Place your chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 20-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is smooth and shiny. Be careful not to overheat it—chocolate can be temperamental!
Coat the Molds
-
Using a spoon or silicone brush, coat the inside of each mold cavity with a thick layer of melted chocolate. Ensure there are no thin spots, as you want your spheres to be sturdy. Pop the mold into the freezer for about 5-10 minutes to let the chocolate set.
Add a Second Layer
-
Once the first layer has hardened, add another thin layer of melted chocolate for extra durability. Freeze again for another 5 minutes to set.
Fill the Bombs
-
Carefully remove the hardened chocolate shells from the molds. Fill half of the spheres with a tablespoon of hot cocoa mix and a handful of mini marshmallows. You can also add fun extras like sprinkles or a pinch of crushed peppermint if you’re feeling festive.
Seal the Bombs
-
Warm a small saucepan over low heat. Gently press the edge of an empty chocolate shell against the warm pan for a few seconds to melt the edge. Quickly place it on top of a filled shell, sealing the two halves together. You can use a little extra melted chocolate to smooth out the seam if needed.
Decorate!
-
Now for the fun part—decorating! Drizzle melted chocolate over the bombs and sprinkle on some edible glitter, crushed candy canes, or festive sprinkles. Let your creativity shine!
Store or Serve
-
Place your finished hot chocolate bombs on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let them set completely. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature until you’re ready to use them.
