A Warm and Satisfying Pasta Dish for Dinner

Baked ziti with feta is the kind of dinner that quietly wins everyone over. It is warm, filling, and deeply comforting without feeling heavy or complicated. This dish comes together with familiar pantry ingredients, yet the addition of feta brings a gentle tang that lifts the whole meal. It feels homey, but still special enough to serve when you want dinner to feel a little more thoughtful.

What makes this recipe so appealing is how relaxed it feels to prepare. There is no rushing or juggling too many steps at once. You cook the pasta, build a simple sauce, and let the oven do the rest. While it bakes, the kitchen fills with the smell of tomatoes, herbs, and bubbling cheese, which makes the wait feel rewarding instead of long.

Feta adds a lovely contrast to the richness of the baked pasta. It softens as it cooks, creating pockets of creamy saltiness that balance the tomato sauce beautifully. Each bite feels well rounded and satisfying, making this dish a great option for a calm weeknight dinner or a cozy weekend meal shared with family.

This is also the kind of recipe that fits naturally into real life. It reheats well, holds its texture, and tastes just as good the next day. You can serve it on its own or pair it with a simple salad or bread, and it still feels complete and comforting every time.

Ingredients

  • 400 g ziti pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh parsley or basil for garnish optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C. Lightly grease a baking dish and set it aside.
  2. Cook the ziti pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water until just tender. Drain well and set aside.
  3. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft and lightly golden. Stir in the garlic and cook for about one minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper to the pan. Stir well and let the sauce simmer gently for 5 to 7 minutes so the flavors come together.
  5. In a large bowl, combine the cooked pasta with the sauce. Mix until the pasta is evenly coated.
  6. Transfer half of the pasta mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle half of the feta and half of the mozzarella over the top. Add the remaining pasta, then finish with the rest of the feta and mozzarella.
  7. Bake uncovered for about 25 to 30 minutes, until the cheese is melted and lightly golden on top.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired, then serve warm.
