Ingredients
For the General Tso's Chicken:
- 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon minced ginger
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 green onions chopped
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
For the Garlic Rice:
- 1 cup white rice
- 2 cups water
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions optional
Instructions
-
To prepare the General Tso's Chicken, combine the cornstarch, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl. Add the chicken and toss to coat.
-
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook until browned and crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
-
Add the ginger and garlic to the skillet and cook for another 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
-
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, honey, red pepper flakes, water, and cornstarch. Pour the mixture over the chicken and stir to combine.
-
Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 5-7 minutes, until the sauce has thickened and the chicken is cooked through.
-
While the chicken is cooking, prepare the garlic rice. In a medium saucepan, combine the rice, water, vegetable oil, garlic, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low and cover. Cook for 18-20 minutes, until the rice is tender and the liquid has been absorbed.
-
Fluff the rice with a fork and stir in the chopped green onions, if using.
-
Serve the General Tso's Chicken hot, garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve the garlic rice on the side.
