Ingredients

For the Donuts:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Donut Maker: Preheat your mini donut maker according to the manufacturer's instructions. If you don't have a donut maker, you can use a mini donut pan and preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. Prepare the Batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. Fold in the mini chocolate chips.
  5. Fill the Donut Maker or Pan: If using a donut maker, follow the manufacturer's instructions for adding batter. If using a donut pan, spoon the batter into a piping bag or a zip-top bag with the corner snipped off. Pipe the batter into the mini donut molds, filling each about two-thirds full.
  6. Bake the Donuts: Close the donut maker and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions. If using a donut pan, bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into a donut comes out clean.
  7. Prepare the Glaze: While the donuts are baking, prepare the glaze. In a bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed.
  8. Glaze the Donuts: Once the donuts are done and slightly cooled, dip each donut into the chocolate glaze, ensuring they are evenly coated. Place them on a wire rack to let any excess glaze drip off.
  9. Serve and Enjoy: Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes, and then serve these delightful mini chocolate chip donuts to your kids. They are best enjoyed fresh!
