Ingredients

For the Tea:

  • 1/2 cup of black tea leaves or 2-3 tea bags you can also use green tea, oolong, or herbal tea if you prefer
  • 2 cups of water
  • Sugar or sweetener to taste

For the Tapioca Pearls:

  • 1/2 cup of tapioca pearls
  • Water for boiling
  • Sugar for sweetening optional

For the Milk Tea:

  • 1/2 cup of milk you can use dairy or plant-based milk like almond, soy, or coconut
  • Sweetened condensed milk or sugar to taste adjust based on your preference

Instructions

  1. Cook Tapioca Pearls: Follow the instructions on the tapioca pearl packaging to cook them. Typically, you'll need to bring a pot of water to a boil and add the tapioca pearls. Stir gently and cook for about 20-30 minutes until they become soft and chewy. Be sure to check the cooking time as it can vary based on the brand. Once done, drain the pearls and let them cool. You can also sweeten them with a bit of sugar if desired.
  2. Prepare the Tea: Boil 2 cups of water and steep the tea leaves or tea bags for the recommended time (usually 3-5 minutes). Remove the tea leaves or bags and let the tea cool to room temperature. You can add sugar or sweetener while the tea is still warm if you like your tea sweet.
  3. Make the Milk Tea: In a separate container, mix the brewed tea with milk. You can adjust the milk-to-tea ratio to your liking. If you prefer sweeter milk tea, add sweetened condensed milk or sugar to taste. Stir until well combined.
  4. Assemble the Boba Tea: Add a few spoonfuls of cooked tapioca pearls (cooled) to the bottom of a glass. You can also add a little extra sugar syrup from the cooked tapioca pearls for added sweetness if you like.
  5. Pour in the Milk Tea: Carefully pour the prepared milk tea over the tapioca pearls. You can use a long spoon or a wide straw to help guide the liquid.
  6. Add Ice (Optional): If you like your boba tea cold, you can add ice cubes to the glass.
  7. Serve: Insert a wide straw (usually made of plastic) into the glass, give it a good stir to mix the tapioca pearls with the tea, and enjoy your homemade boba tea!
