Ingredients

  • 2 filet mignon steaks 6-8 ounces each, preferably at room temperature
  • 2 lobster tails thawed if frozen
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter divided
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Lemon wedges for serving
  • For the Steak Seasoning:
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional, for a bit of heat

Instructions

Preparing the Steak:

  1. In a small bowl, mix together all the ingredients for the steak seasoning.
  2. Pat the steaks dry with paper towels. Rub the steak seasoning mixture evenly over both sides of the steaks.
  3. Let the steaks sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking to allow the seasoning to penetrate the meat.

Preparing the Lobster Tails:

  1. Preheat your grill or broiler to medium-high heat.
  2. Using kitchen shears, carefully cut along the top of each lobster tail shell lengthwise.
  3. Gently pry the shell open and lift the lobster meat out, keeping it attached at the base of the tail. Place the lobster meat on top of the shell.
  4. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add half of the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Brush the garlic butter mixture over the exposed lobster meat.

Cooking the Surf n' Turf:

  1. Heat a cast-iron skillet or grill pan over high heat. Once hot, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter.
  2. Place the seasoned steaks in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. For well-done steaks, cook for an additional 2-3 minutes per side.
  3. While the steaks are cooking, place the prepared lobster tails on the grill or under the broiler. Cook for about 5-6 minutes, or until the lobster meat is opaque and cooked through.
  4. Once the steaks and lobster tails are cooked, remove them from the heat and let them rest for a few minutes.
  5. Sprinkle chopped parsley over the steaks and lobster tails.
  6. Serve the surf n' turf hot with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the lobster and steak.
