Mermaid Pasta
An easy, colorful dish that invokes the wonders of the deep sea (without being seafood).
Ingredients
- 1 gallon water
- 16 oz uncooked pasta shells
- 4 tsp salt
- hot pink, purple, and turquoise gel food coloring
- 3 tbsp melted unsalted butter
- 3 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tbsp finely shredded fresh basil
Instructions
-
Bring water to a boil in a Dutch oven set to high. Add pasta shells and salt to boiling water. Cook while frequently stirring until the shells become al dente, about 10 minutes. Drain the pasta and rinse with cold water.
-
Divide pasta among 3 ziplock plastic bags. Add 2 drops of pink coloring to 1 bag, 2 drops of purple coloring to the second bag, and 2 drops of turquoise coloring to the third bag. Add 1 tablespoon melted butter to each bag. Seal bags, and shake the heck out of them to coat pasta in color and butter.
-
Combine all of the pasta in a serving bowl, and toss with Parmesan cheese (this is your "sand") and garnish with basil (that's your "seaweed").
