Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 strips orange zest
  • 2 cups cubed seeded watermelon
  • 3/4 cup white tequila
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • salt or sugar for rimming glasses optional
  • 1 lime cut into wedges
  • 2 cups crushed ice or as needed

Instructions

  1. Get the sugar, water, and orange zest boiling in a small saucepan while stirring constantly. Let it simmer until sugar is dissolved, about 3 minutes. This will serve as your simple syrup. Take that mix off the heat and let it cool completely.

  2. Pulse the watermelon in a blender/food processor until it's pureed.

  3. Stir the watermelon puree into a large pitcher along with the simple syrup mixture, the tequila, and the lime juice.

  4. Now to prep glasses. If you don't care about presentation, feel free to skip this step. Place a bit of salt/sugar into a saucer. Rub the edges of your margarita glasses with a lime wedge to get them moist, then lightly dip the rims of the glasses into the saucer to get a salt/sugar rimming. Make sure to tap off excess salt or sugar.

  5. Fill the glasses with crushed ice and pour your margarita mix in. Garnish with lime wedges to serve.
