Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 4 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons butter softened
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. First, we gotta make the dough. Place the first portion of warm water in a big bowl, then dissolve the yeast and sugar in there. Let that sit until the yeast gets soft and starts foaming up, about 15 minutes. Add the flour, the second portion of water, 2 tablespoons softened butter, and 1 tablespoon salt. Knead that dough until it's soft and well-mixed, around 3 minutes.

  2. Roll the dough into a 2-foot log, then cut it into 16 equal pieces, about 1 1/2 inches wide. Knead the pieces into 6-inch breadsticks and arrange them on a baking sheet. Let the sticks rise for about 1 hour.

  3. Turn the oven up to 375 F. While that's heating up, mix the melted butter and garlic powder together in a bowl and brush it onto the prepped sticks.

  4. Bake the sticks until they're golden brown, about 15 minutes. After you take them out, give them another brush with the remaining melted butter mixture, then sprinkle with salt.
