Prep Time 1 minute
Cook Time 2 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips optional
  • Ice cream or whipped cream optional, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter in the microwave for about 30 seconds or until fully melted.
  2. add the granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract to the melted butter. Stir until well combined and smooth.
  3. whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, stirring well after each addition.
  4. If desired, fold the chocolate chips to add extra richness to your brownie.
  5. Grease a microwave-safe dish or mug with cooking spray or a small amount of butter. Pour the brownie batter into the dish, ensuring it's evenly spread.
  6. Place the dish in the microwave and cook on high power for about 1 minute and 30 seconds to 2 minutes. The cooking time may vary depending on the wattage of your microwave, so keep an eye on the brownie as it cooks. You want the edges to be set but the center to be slightly gooey.
  7. Once cooked, carefully remove the dish from the microwave (it will be hot!) and let it cool for a minute or two.
  8. Serve the microwave brownie warm with a scoop of ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
