Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

For the Filling:

  • 3 large apples peeled, cored, and diced (use a variety like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 4 oz 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, melted butter, salt, and eggs. Add the frothy yeast mixture and mix well.
  3. Gradually add the flour, stirring until the dough comes together. Knead the dough on a floured surface until it's smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling:

  1. In a medium bowl, toss the diced apples with brown sugar and ground cinnamon until well coated.

Assemble the Rolls:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a large rectangle.
  3. Brush the melted butter over the dough, then evenly spread the apple mixture.
  4. Roll the dough tightly from one long end to the other, creating a log.
  5. Cut the log into 12 equal slices and place them in a greased baking pan.

Bake:

  1. Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  2. Prepare the Cream Cheese Frosting:
  3. In a bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Frost the Rolls:

  1. Once the rolls are out of the oven and slightly cooled, spread the cream cheese frosting over the top.

Serve:

  1. Enjoy the apple and cinnamon rolls warm. They're best when served fresh, but you can store any leftovers in an airtight container.
