Homemade Tortillas
Out of tortillas for burrito night? Make your own!
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 tablespoons lard
- 1 ½ cups water
Instructions
-
In a mixing bowl, whisk the flour, salt, and baking powder together. Use your fingers to mix in the lard until the flour looks and feels like cornmeal. Add the water and mix it until the dough comes together. Place the dough lump on a lightly floured surface and knead it for a few minutes until it becomes smooth and stretchy. Divide the dough into 24 pieces and roll each into a sphere.
-
Heat up a skillet on medium-high. With a well-floured rolling pin, roll one of the dough spheres into a thin disc. Place the disc into the hot skillet, and cook until it turns bubbly and golden; flip it over and continue cooking until golden on the other side. Transfer your newborn tortilla to a tortilla warmer and repeat the process with the remaining dough spheres.
